Newborn Essentials

Newborn Essentials

Hi Everyone--

Diana is already two months! Here are some of the things that I can't live without this second time around...

1. Dockatot--I CANNOT rave enough about this product.  This is the holy grail of baby products and WELL worth the cost.  It's basically like a lounger bed for baby.  Diana absolutely loves it and routinely sleeps in it for 5+ hours a night.  She still likes to be held and snuggled, but this is the closest thing to feeling like she's being held.  I use it either in her Halo co-sleeper, or in bed next to me.  The covers that you can purchase are also so cute and you can pretty much find one to match with any nursery theme! And, as an added bonus, if you click this link, you will get 10% off of your purchase!  http://dockatot.refr.cc/WXNQXS3

2. Swaddling blankets--all new babies need swaddling blankets.  I'm addicted to collecting these, I've realized as Diana has about 30 of them.  I use them for everything, from their actual purpose of swaddling, to nursing cover, spit-up cleaner, or makeshift playmat.  I love the bold black and white ones from modern burlap and the bamboo ones that aden and anais make.

3. Ring Sling--newborns LOVE to be held and cuddled.  The sakura bloom is great for keeping babies close in this newborn stage and makes life easier getting things done around the house or when you have your toddler in tow and have to wear the baby.

4. Keurig--Because you need LOTS (ok, I only drink one cup) of coffee with a toddler and a newborn, no matter how well they sleep!  Some people don't drink caffeine at all when they are nursing, however, I find no noticeable difference in the baby's behavior with just one cup.

5. Diaper Bag--I got a Fawn Design Bag this time around. The most important feature for me was making sure I'd be able to use the bag as a backpack since I knew I would need my hands free to wrangle my crazy toddler.   This diaper bag is versatile and stylish,  it most certainly doesn't "look" like a diaper bag and I love it.

6. Diapers--obviously.  You need lots of these with a newborn. I like the cute prints Honest offers and the fact that they are green and have no harsh chemicals, so I especially like to use these at the newborn stage.  I will say that after the newborn stage, I normally use whatever diapers are on sale because I don't find any one brand to be that much "better" than any other.

7.  4 moms Bouncearoo--Diana loves this seat.  It has 3 settings for vibration and it gently bounces back and forth with babies' own motion.  This is a simpler version of the mamaroo, but it gets the job done.  At $100 it's a good deal.

8.  Life Factory Glass Bottles--I am using glass bottles this time around.  I intended on re-using the plastic bottles I used with Harry, but noticed a nasty odor and film inside even after washing and sterilizing them.  My mom dug up glass bottles that she used FOR ME and they were still in perfect condition, with no nasty odor or otherwise.  While I'm not using my old bottles for Diana, it made me realize that glass is the better choice.  I like the Life Factory ones because they have a silicone cover over them so they don't break.  Diana has one bottle every evening and seems to love these as well.

9.  Nursing Dress--it's funny how you change your whole life and style to accommodate little ones.  I have tons of nursing friendly shirts, and always wear a tank top under all my sweaters  and shirts so I can just lift them up to nurse.  I can normally nurse very discreetly this way.  The one thing I miss are dresses because you can't really nurse in most dresses unless they are button down or have some other type of opening in the front.   The "Breton Stripe Nursing Dress" by JoJoMamanBebe makes is one of my faves and it's on sale now!

10.  Red Lipstick--Because you need something to distract people from those designer bags under your eyes :)

Hope you all enjoyed this post!  What are some things that you couldn't live without when you had a newborn?

Welcoming Spring with a Gender Reveal!

Hello everyone!

What better way to welcome spring than with the announcement of a little one!  We couldn't wait to find out what we are having (I'm not really one for surprises in general), and it just so happened my doctor offered an advanced genetic screening test which also happened to include baby's sex, if we wanted.  The baby is due in October and it's a GIRL!!!  We are so excited to meet her!!!

The beautiful photos are courtesy of Sweet Blossom Studios. For another chance to win a Starbucks gift card, comment with your best GIRL NAMES in the comment section!!! I will choose a winner at the end of the week!
